Seb Jarnot's illustration style has the perfect combination of minimalism and simplicity in form mixed with an abundance of complexity in meaning. There are all kinds of narratives and emotions that seem to pour out of each drawing. I'm guessing this guy has a lot on his mind! You can sense a little heartbreak and inner turmoil in his work...
His work has so much depth and beauty. I discovered him though Hand to Eye (see book cover below) which is full of cool illustrators. I'm still pretty new in developing my own illustration style and this book has been instrumental providing inspiration! I'll be posting more artists featured in it.
And look at these espadrilles with Jarnot's illustrations: too bad they're not for sale! Any chance these are size 36?
He also has a book called Seb Jarnot, 3x7=15 (see middle image below). Either he wasn't very good in the math department, or I'm guessing that's full of mystery meaning too. Anyway, I'll soon find out since I just purchased it. The image on the bottom right is a poster called Kim #3 you can buy through Poster IT for 25 euros. Hmmm... I wonder if this "Kim" has anything to do with the heartbreak theme in his drawings...Look at me all up in his beeswax!
I am always on the prowl for new illustrators and frankly new artists in general. Thanks so much for highlighting this great new artist!
