Despite the promise a partial VAT (tax) refund, shopping in London was painful. It hurt to buy anything: a tee, a notebook, a friggin diet coke. When a diet coke at dinner is the equivalent of $7 and a tandoori chicken at nearly $21, the idea of shopping goes south quckly. Five days of rain didn't help either. But then it wouldn't be much of a trip if I came back empty handed.
Of course, I had to make my pilgrimage to Orla Kiely. She has such a cool little shop in Covent Garden, where I purchased both a bag and wallet.
Later at the Tate Modern, I was pleased to discover that Ms. Kiely also designed a collection of bags, wallets, umbrellas, buttons, and notebooks for the museum. I have a pretty bad notebook habit with no signs of mending my ways, so of course, I bought a couple. I collect notebooks faster than I can fill them. I know that sounds pretty nerdy.
