Sometimes I wish I had finished architecture grad school--only because I miss the friends I made there. I don't miss the crits at all! Although I love design, the scale of architectural design just wasn't for me. I'm probably more suited for an MFA in Design program, but this is something I've learned only with time and exploration. I don't regret doing a year of an MArch program at all. In fact, that year was pivotal in helping define my design goals and aesthetic. Albeit an expensive way to find it out...as I'm still paying off my student loans for that ONE year.
So of course, architecture remains a source of inspiration for me. So when I saw Sandra Siewert's pillows (top image) in the latest ID mag, I was totally drooling. Her Zornige Kinger screenprinted pillows feature illustrations of "disappearing landmarks of postwar architecture from her Native Berlin". I appreciate the personal and sentimental value she brings to her work as she's preserving (in a sense) buildings that are slowly being erased from her homeland's topography.
PS. Sorry I haven't been able to post lately! Taking care of business and family....
these are beautiful!
