Industrial Stools

Martha

I'm working on a project now that has me searching through all kinds of fun magazines. I like this kind of research! I came across this image from MS Living (Sept. 2006). It's an image of Martha's kitchen. I love the grey tones and that she used inexpensive industrial shop/lab stools. The lab stools were sourced from C&H Distributors ($48.60), but I'm sure there are other places you can find these!

Stand Up Comedy

After reading Reference Library today, I realized I totally forgot to visit this store while in Portland. Grrrrrr. Sucks! Next time!

Space Design

Picture_1

While we were at the Ace Hotel (and it's event space "The Cleaners"), I was in awe of the gorgeous terrariums they had on display. I just had to find out who made them. So I found out they were designed by a local designer, Martie, who owns Space Design in Portland. Here are some images from her website. Too cool.

BTW, I messed up on the post below. I meant to say that the Modern Economy sale in Portland will be in July 2008!! Duh.

Modern Economy & The Ace Hotel

It's for sure. I'll be bringing the Modern Economy sale to Portland, OR in July 2008 {oops, i put '09 there by accident!!}. I'm still finalizing the date and all, but the venue's all set: the Ace Hotel's event space called "The Cleaners" (which I'm guessing used to be cleaners at some point). I'm super excited about bringing the sale there! It'll be the first ME sale outside of California. If that goes well, there's even the possibility of bringing the sale even further away to Philadelphia in 2009. We'll see...

Anh-Minh stayed in this deluxe room of the Ace Hotel (below). I swear we were total asian tourists snapping a million pictures of that room and of the hotel, too. And, I'm so going to model my bedroom after it. I'm loving the industrial-military feeling of it.

So we had a great time in Portland last weekend. Dude, there is practically no difference between the weather there and here in the Bay Area (at least for the moment). And, we got to visit Canoe--which is my kind of store--simple, well-edited, and full of great design. We went kind of nutty in there buying cast iron rabbits and bamboo card cases.

This has been permanently on my wish list though I haven't gotten around to actually buying it.

Antonino Sciortino

Unera

I'm nutty about sculptural wire, so I've had Antonino Sciortino bookmarked for a while now ever since I discovered him through HFHA. His work is so architectural, it's just like having a mini-Calatrava in your hand. If you love sculptural wire, his website is full of inspirational stuff.

I was hoping to post more this week, but I've had my hands full with the kids. Mom (aka. the babysitter) went on a 2-week vacation starting this week so I've been playing a ton of Candyland and Crazy 8's with my daughter and launching missile attacks on Lego fortresses with my son instead of doing some real work! (Let me say, I've been kicking ass in Candyland.) Luckily, I get a tiny bit of a vacation myself starting today as my husband takes over kid-watching duties. I'm leaving for Portland with some friends this morning and meeting up with a few more friends over there. Fun, fun, fun. If only it wasn't 35 degrees-ish over there. In any case, I can't wait to visit Canoe and the Ace Hotel. Have a great weekend!

Toypography

What a cool idea by the Kukuyo Co. The same wooden blocks can be used to spell fish in English, in Japanese, and in illustrated form. It makes for an interesting puzzle (and wall decor, too). Comes in other words like bear, bird, horse, and monkey.

Rebecca Overmann

Ever since I saw her jewelry at the DWR Craft Within Reach event last month, I can't stop thinking about Rebecca Overmann's work! I'm saving up to buy some rings, a bracelet, earrings....

Hello. Again.

Hellospring

Okay, so it isn't quite spring yet. But with all this nasty weather we're having here, I keep thinking about sunny weather. Hence, my illustration. Well, I'm back from my hiatus from this blog. I have to say--the end of last year was a lot fun, but totally exhausting. And I know this blog turned into a serious me, me, me, self-promo, event-promo workhorse for a couple months. Man, there was a lot going on.

Anyway, for the past couple weeks I've been working steadily updating this website, and the other website. Geez, the list of websites to update are never ending. And I probably should update this blog, too. Hmph.

In the coming weeks, I'll probably be doing a lot of interior design posts as I'm trying to catalog some ideas for my house. I'm actually looking forward to getting that all organized here.

Oh, I got the Urban Outfitters catalog today, and this t-shirt made me laugh!
